Maple makes woodworking a joy, as it machines easily and resists splitting. Heartwood sells only Soft Maple form the Appalachian Mountains; this includes a wormy variety of Maple, also known as Ambrosia Maple, which is also beloved by pin-holing beetles carrying  the Ambrosia virus, which leave distinctive veins of rich colors without degrading the wood. Available in 4/4 thickness in two common grades, and random widths.
